To see how light refraction works it helps to understand the basic anatomy of the eye. The normal eye is a perfect sphere. The cornea is the front most surface of the eye and it is responsible for refracting or bending light, which generates images that are interpreted by the brain. The iris is the colored part of the eye. The muscles of the iris control the size of the pupil. The pupil is the black spot in the center of the iris and it regulates the amount of light that enters the eye. The lens is normally a clear structure behind the pupil that works with the cornea to focus light on the back inside part of the eye known as the retina.
