About WaveFront Guided LASIK

Most vision prescriptions attempt to correct certain types of visual imperfections (categorized as higher- and lower-order aberrations) that can distort one’s vision. While some lasers correct lower-order aberrations (nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism) based on your prescription, CustomVue LASIK uses WaveFront technology to correct higher order aberrations as well.

The CustomVue procedure utilizes an aberrometer to precisely map the eye and all of its irregularities, for customized vision correction based on your eye’s individual characteristics. This results in a level of visual acuity that can sometimes exceed the limitations of corrective lenses or traditional LASIK. WaveFront guided custom LASIK reduces or eliminates many of the negative side effects associated with standard LASIK, including poor night vision due to glare and halos.

The WaveFront Guided Procedure

During the initial extensive exam with one of our experienced eye surgeons, computers will make a map or “fingerprint” of each eye using WaveScan technology. Based on these measurements, the system will make the exact adjustments needed to reshape the cornea for improved vision. The individual map created of each eye will guide the all-laser procedure, which uses iFS IntraLase™ laser technology for flap creation.

At Shiley Eye Center, we are committed to remaining at the forefront in laser eye surgery. We offer only leading edge technology for optimal results for our patients. The decision as to whether or not to undergo WaveFront-guided or WaveFront-optimized or PRK laser vision correction can only be made through a consultation with one of our experienced surgeons. Your surgeon will discuss all of your vision correction options, and work with you to determine the approach that will work best for your eyes and your lifestyle.
