About WaveFront-Optimized LASIK
Standard or traditional LASIK used your prescription to correct lower-order aberrations: nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Custom LASIK with the ALLEGRETTO WAVE goes beyond your prescription to provide customized vision correction that preserves the natural curvature of the cornea.
The system creates a precise, three-dimensional map of each eye, which Dr. Schanzlin or one of his colleagues uses to determine the type of refractive procedure recommended. This map represents the unique characteristics of your eyes including the curvature of the cornea. ALLEGRETTO WAVE Wavefront-optimized LASIK preserves the natural shape of the cornea, minimizing negative side effects such as impaired night vision, halos and glare.
WaveFront-optimized LASIK utilizes ALLEGRETTO WAVE technology – the fastest FDA approved laser available for vision correction. With WaveFront-optimized LASIK, patients report excellent one day post operative vision, improved comfort, and the clearest, most natural night vision. WaveFront-optimized LASIK also minimizes the number of higher order aberrations introduced through the LASIK procedure. The ALLEGRETTO WAVE has a low enhancement rate, meaning it achieves targeted vision the first time in most cases, minimizing the likelihood of a second or “touch up” procedure.
The WaveFront Optimized Procedure
You will have an initial consultation with one of our surgeons, during which you will undergo a comprehensive evaluation. At this time, we will use topographic technology to make a computerized, 3D map of your eye, including its unique curvature. This map will be used to guide your LASIK treatment, for results that go beyond standard vision correction. At Shiley Eye Center, we combine the ALLEGRETTO WAVE system with iFS IntraLase™ laser flap creation technology for a bladeless LASIK procedure. A Wavefront Optimized treatment uses Wavefront principles in conjunction with your corneal curvature to address the unique characteristics of your eyes, optimizing your treatment to the shape of a normal eye. The goal of this treatment is to correct your vision while ensuring a more natural eye shape!
